1st October - Open Class Prelims and Finals at Milton Keynes

Despite giving everything they had & achieving their highest score in Open Class competition, the Scouts were pipped by 0.9 of a point by Phantom Knights & Southern Aurora who tied for 3rd place.

Although that 3rd place proved elusive both the Prelims and Finals performances were thoroughly entertaining and proved that the Scouts are equal to the best on the day.

Well done to all the members and staff in contributing to a great Finals competition and ending what has been a memorable year.

17th September - A Class Prelims at Milton Keynes

A great day out and another superb performance earned the Scouts a 4th place at the A Class Prelims show at the National Hockey stadium. The score of 78.4 put them 1.5 points behind Southern Aurora so a top three placing at Finals in two weeks time is now a realistic target.

Highlights of the show are difficult to pick out in what was an excellent all round performance from all sections. However, Bundy's arch back in the park and blow in Canto is well worth a mention. A definite role model for the rest of the brass line.

10th September - Concord Classic Part 2 at Scunthorpe

With a score of 76.9 and a near clean sweep of all categories the Scouts achieved a magnificant first win in Open Class competition.

From the opening statement of Final Analysis it was clear that all the hard work put in during the summer break was about to pay off. The power of the horn line was well supported by the percussion and guard into Canto del Viento with the performance culminating in a tremendous rendition of Caravan featuring a newly introduced drum break.

Congratulations go to all marching members and staff for this historic achievement. The run into Finals is now very much anticipated as the Corps concentrates on building on the success of this first win.

23rd July - Statesmen 2000 Show at Leicester

Despite an improved score of 65.3 the performance at Leicester must be considered a disappointment with an opportunity to make up the gap on the top three lost. Featuring Cookie in his debut as Drum Major the much faster tempo of the show proved difficult to sustain throughout the whole show. Final Analysis zipped along however the Corps lost its way during Canto and never recovered to the end of Caravan, memories of Grantham last year all over again. The one consolation is that a marginally better performance on the day would have put the Corps in reach of Cadence and Southern Aurora who tied for 2nd place.

25th June - Concord Classic Part 1 at Grantham

The second competitive performance of the season saw the Scouts take another second place behind the Senators. The improvement in the performance from the first show at Warrington was reflected in the score of 64.7, a record high for a second show. Progress to date has been positive with all areas of the Corps showing improvement particularly the percussion section. Despite that it is clear that the show has yet to achieve its full potential. The 4 weeks until the next show at Leicester will provide the time to fulfill that potential and put the Corps in a position to challenge for a top three spot to end the first half of the season positively.

11th June - Live in the Park at Warrington

The Scouts opened up the DCUK 2000 season with a magnificent 2nd place gaining their highest ever Open Class opening performance score of 57.1, nearly 10 points better than their previous best. All this was achieved after 3 weeks of frantic practice to put the show together including a temporary loss of the normal practice field and one weekend session where the surface was almost unmarchable.

Well done to the whole Corps, particularly the new members and rookies Vicki and Jennie. The highlight of the show was definitely the performance of the colourguard who have obviously gained from their experiences in Winterguard 2000. A close second was Bundy's improvised attempt at gaining extra GE points with a stylish fall to the ground bringing Chris down in the process. Their rapid recovery to complete the show probably resulted in the judges not getting the full impact of this innovative move. Better luck next time.

The next show at Grantham will see the Scouts field a full Corps for the first time this season and a mid to high 60s score must be a realistic target. Click on the link below to see the opening seconds of this years campaign.
