Kidsgrove Scouts were formed in 1910 and are a non-profit making organization. The
Drum & Bugle Corps associated with Kidsgrove Scouts is affiliated with all the major Drum Corps
organizations in the UK, being a DCUK member for over a decade and a founder member of BYBA.
Comprised of 40 members, ranging from 10 years to 25 years old, the Corps performed last year on the
DCUK circuit finishing 5th in the National Finals, at two BYBA shows and at the National Scout and Guide
championships taking 1st place in the Showband class.
DCUK was formed in 1980 with a format similar to Drum Corps International (DCI) in the United
States, which features bands playing music that integrates jazz, classical and pop using a wide range
of multi-valve brass horns and sophisticated drums and percussion instruments. The Corps are now an
established DCUK Corps performing five or six competition shows during the summer months and
regularly finishing in the top eight at the annual DCUK championship finals. Since joining DCUK the Corps has increasingly developed an innovative approach to its performances
with the emphasis on entertainment. In recent years the Corps have concentrated on playing big band
jazz with the dual objectives of stretching the performers and providing a crowd pleasing show.
